Transcriptionist Press Kit
Quick Overview
Transcriptionist takes audio files and turns them into text — quickly and privately, on your own iPhone, iPad or Apple Silicon Mac instead of the cloud — in almost 100 languages. Whether you want to:
- create polished transcripts, or subtitles for publication,
- skim the contents of an audio file without having to listen to the whole thing,
- search an audio file to find a particular quote or favourite moment,
...Transcriptionist can help. Edit the text in the app, or export it in a variety of popular formats (including Markdown, HTML and subtitle files), or teach it your own custom format.
Transcriptionist integrates with our popular iOS podcast editing app Ferrite Recording Studio to prepare podcast transcripts, but is equally useful as a standalone app.
Key Features
Playback: You can always listen back to the audio, not just read the text.
- Playback progress is shown alongside the text.
- Tap/click to jump playback to a particular line.
- Play back at up to 2× speed.
Multi-track: If you import multiple audio files — one per person — Transcriptionist will combine them into a single transcript where you can both read and hear what everyone said.
- Avoids issues with “cross-talk”: Transcriptionist listens to each audio file individually.
- This also means it knows who said what, and can attribute their quotes accordingly.
- Can “solo” or “mute” speakers when listening back.
Ferrite integration: A new update to Ferrite (v3.1) will be released simultaneously with Transcriptionist, and supports integrating the two apps.
- Export projects from Ferrite to Transcriptionist.
- Each Ferrite track appears as a separate participant in your transcript.
- Includes MP3 Chapters and chapter art.
Note: Ferrite is currently available for iPhone and iPad, but not Mac. However, if you like, you can export transcription projects from Ferrite on iOS direct to your Mac for transcribing, using AirDrop, or a cloud storage service such as iCloud Drive.
Stylish exports: Export .md
Markdown, .html
web pages, .pdf
documents, .csv
tables, .vtt
or .srt
subtitles, or create your own custom text formats.
- HTML and PDF support includes a variety of styles, with options to highlight different speakers with colour.
- Custom formats can be designed with the built-in editor. No obscure variables or coding required: use interactive “tokens” to include info from the transcript and set the format to use.
- Select and copy paragraphs in most formats (including custom ones), ready to paste quotes into articles, content management systems, etc.
